Lactation Consultant/Registered Dietitian

Position Summary:

The Lactation Consultant, is responsible for providing support for the mother-infant breastfeeding dyad. The tasks include assessment, planning, interventions, and evaluation of lactation support and education for clients in the postpartum period at Crozer Keystone Health System. Participates in the development of policies which protect, promote and support breastfeeding. Provides holistic, evidence-based breastfeeding support and care, from preconception to weaning, for women and their families. Uses principles of adult education when teaching clients, health care providers and others in the community

Evaluates nutritional status, assesses nutritional needs, develops and implements nutrition care plans, and evaluates and reports this information appropriately. Provides complex nutritional care based on specialty knowledge of metabolic response to severe injury and illness. Cooperates and coordinates activities with other health care team managers and staff to provide quality patient care. This position serves all ages of patients.

Performs duties in support of the health system's mission to ensure the highest quality of patient care in an economically sound and efficient manner.

Develop and implement guidelines and a standard of care related to breastfeeding

Plans, organizes, and delivers lactation management services

Plans, teaches, and conducts in-services education for all staff

Develops, leads and organizes lactation programs such as prenatal classes and/or breastfeeding support group

Clarify roles and perceptions about breastfeeding support among healthcare providers caring for newborns and mothers

Collects and conducts quality metrics related to breastfeeding rates

Performs patient evaluation when consulted by physician or through self-referral via a review of the medical record/history using objective and subjective information to formulate a nutrition care plan in accordance with departmental guidelines. Assesses the appropriateness of nutrition care and recommends alternate therapies as indicated.

Accurately calculates nutritional value of enteral tube feedings and/or parenteral nutrition, when consulted by physician. Assesses appropriateness of current nutritional care and recommends alternate therapy when indicated

Prepares documentation in the medical record or to the referring physician after each patient contact. Uses clear, concise language and objective data according to the time frame outlined in the departmental Policy and Procedure Manual.

Works directly with high risk compromised special needs patients in selecting meals and communicates those special selections/needs or allergies to the food production staff.

Counsels patients and/or their significant others on prescribed diets, when consulted by physician or through self-referral according to departmental quality monitoring and improvement standards

Maintains positive communication with diet office personnel, patient service personnel, kitchen employees, medical staff, therapy staff, housekeeping, pharmacy, patients, and families

Regularly attends and participates in department meetings, case management meetings, physician rounds, and/or other committees as appropriate

Demonstrates on going responsibility for self-education to ensure their practice remains relevant by attending professional conferences, e-learning and journal reviews.

Education and Training:

Registered Dietitian

Certification by I. B. L. C. E. or candidate for certification by I. B. L. C. E. with successful completion within one year of date of hire

Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows System.

Additional Education/Experience Preferred:
Postgraduate Degree in nutrition education or Nutrition Science

Experience:

At least two years clinical nutrition experience preferred.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
